He Made Me Do It by Zee Shine Storm

What is it like to be both Muslim and gay? Honestly? It feels like I’ve been cursed for all eternity. And then I had to go and fall for Asher Hannes and make it even more complicated.

Not only was he a guy, he happened to be my cocky and rebellious stepbrother who became the reason I began to get in trouble for things that weren’t even my fault.

Just seven months of his mother having married my dad, seven months of living under the same roof with him and sometimes even sharing the same bed and I already knew I was going to hell. Because I couldn’t keep fighting who I was around him. I couldn’t keep ignoring how I felt.

Wanting him was wrong. I never intended to cross any lines. But he made me do it anyway.

Note: This is a high school romance but with 18+ content. It does contain controversial themes relating to religion and homophobia but overall, it’s a feel-good love story.

Hana’s Review

-️Stepbrothers/Taboo Romance
-Queer/MM Romance

Perhaps my moral compass is a much darker grey than most because though this is labeled taboo, stepbrothers aren’t related… so, all fair in love and lust in my little, crazy world haha

In any case, I really, really enjoyed this book. I was lured in by the prospect of taboo as well as the description of diverse main characters – a Muslim gay main character? I’m so in!! And I loved Zayn. All he wants is to be a good son, a good Muslim – which is all made difficult by the realization, from a young age, that he’s gay.

And which is further complicated when his gorgeous new stepbrother moves in after his dad remarries. Bringing along all sorts of temptation and rebellion with him. Asher is all those things and utterly vibrant and unapologetic for who he is. And it’s impossible for Zayn to stay away. Especially once they both realize that the attraction is mutual. Asher is the bad boy to Zayn’s good boy but in all Asher’s rebellious behavior, the love that his feelings evolve into is so supportive and sexy and strong and I was hooked.

The book had so much – sweetness, spiciness, laughter and heartache. It was well-written, dual POV, with distinct voices. There were some parts that I didn’t really buy into (the strange way that Asher made his money) but it didn’t necessarily detract completely from the love story I was wholly invested in.

Wrath (Sinful Secrets #4) by Ella James

Josh Miller.
That’s his name, but I just call him DG for Do Gooder.
This guy is relentless. All-American, baby-faced, blue-eyed band dork who’s not a band dork at all, because you can’t be a dork when you’re getting scouted to play college soccer. When he’s not busy doing music or sports, DG is counting up his Boy Scout badges or front-rowing it at the First Baptist church.

DG is my new stepbrother. Little brother. I’m a whole year older, not that he knows. I don’t think he knows I’m starting senior year a whole year late. And he definitely doesn’t know why. I’ve got secrets I’m taking with me to the grave.

Everyone thinks I came to play varsity football, but I’ve got other plans, and DG’s trying to thwart them all. He’s making my life worse than it already is.

Having him around is a damn plague. But I can fight back. I found out a little secret about Mr. Perfect. He plays for the “other” team. That ball bat he’s got stuffed into his gray sweatpants–it swings “that” way. The best part about this twisted game is when I find out it gets hard for me.

The Do Gooder…he wants me. I don’t know why. But I know how to make him pay.

Wrath is an emotional, forbidden MM romance that will be the fourth standalone in the bestselling Sinful Secrets collection, where each book is inspired by a sin and centered on a devastating secret.

HATE (Madison Kate Book 1) by Tate James

“Madison Kate Danvers was murdered tonight.”

Those words changed my life, and not for the better.

They were wrong, of course. I wasn’t dead. But I was set up.

After being charged with a string of offences–and made an example of by my political minded father–I’m eventually released back into Shadow Grove with one thing on my mind.

Someone is going to pay for derailing my carefully laid out future. Someone is going to catch the full force of my hate. How very convenient that someone just moved into the bedroom down the hall from me.

Archer D’Ath and his boys messed with the wrong chick and they’re about to learn just how cold Madison Kate’s hate can run.

**Please Note: The release date will change as the book comes closer to completion**

This book was sitting in my kindle far too long. I know Tate James is very well known for her brutal cliffhangers and I decided to wait until all books of the series were released. I WAS RIGHT!!!

So, the first book is more of an introduction of Madison Kate and her life. How she met the guys, how she was framed for a crime she didn’t commit, or how she nearly died. After 1 year in exile, she comes back and her life is suddenly upside down. She finds herself 3 roommates, one of them being her step-brother.

Little does she know life will become more complicated and filled with secrets. Archer, Kody and Steele know more than they let on and I assure you, you’d want to meet them and know them.

Anyway, my review is short because I already started book 2 and finished, so I need to read them ALL!!!

Hate Me by Ashley Jade (Black Mountain Academy)

I’m the whispers in the dark you can’t ignore.
The bully you can’t run away from.

I’m the tormentor who makes your life a living hell.

The villain you love to hate.

I’m the vicious stepbrother sleeping in the next room.

The one who knows all your secrets.

And I’ll stop at nothing to make you pay.

WARNING: This book is recommended for mature readers due to graphic language, sexual content, and dark elements.
Expected publication: January 2021

Excerpt Hate Me by Ashley Jade

Tightening his grip, he escorts me to what appears to be a coat room.

“What the hell?”

“Let’s get one thing straight,” he snarls, cornering me until my spine meets a row of coats. “Your whore mother marrying my father changes nothing between us.”

I almost want to laugh, because I don’t like this new arrangement any more than he does.

However, it’s comical just how much it’s ruffling his feathers.

“Awe, what’s the matter, Trenton?” I taunt. “Afraid I’ll—”

Words die in my throat when one hand slams across my mouth and the other one hovers over my throat, threatening to squeeze. “I’m not afraid of anything, Stray.”

He utters the last word with so much venom I nearly wince. Out of all the cruel nicknames Knox has given me over the years, this one hurts the most.

Because it’s the truth.

Ever since my dad died, I’ve felt lost and abandoned.

Like a kitten who lost its way and will never find home because they don’t belong anywhere.

He leans in close, his ruthless stare burning a hole right through me. “But you should be.”

A shiver runs down my spine, not only because of his threatening words and the hostility they’re laced with…but the lethal way he’s looking at me.

As if he’s contemplating the best method to kill me and dispose of my body afterward.

I’ve heard all the rumors going around school.

His mom was murdered when he was thirteen…

And his dad sent him to a mental institution for a year while he covered it up.

Because Knox was the one who did it.

People weren’t terrified of him just because he was a bully who got off on terrorizing others.

They were terrified because he was a legitimate psychopath who was capable of homicide.

Until now, I wasn’t sure I believed any of the gossip.

At six foot three he towers over my five-four frame, but I force myself to peer up and look him right in the eyes. “Go to hell.”

Deep down I’m petrified of the lunatic, but I refuse to let him see that.

My breath hitches when he presses his body against mine and the hand looming over my throat constricts. “I live there.”

Live? More like ruled because as far as I’m concerned, he’s the devil.

My retort falls by the wayside, though, when he leans in and his mouth brushes mine.

I’m about to ask what the fuck he’s doing, but a sharp sting shoots through my flesh when his teeth clamp down on my bottom lip and I taste a hint of copper.

I try to pull away, but that only makes the pain worse.

Thinking quick, I knee him in the balls.

With an aggravated grunt, he finally releases his hold.

I expect him to be pissed so I brace myself, preparing for another attack, but to my surprise there’s a trace of amusement in his expression.

His tongue darts out and I see the glint of metal from his piercing as he swipes the blood gathered on his lip. “Welcome to the family, sis.”

Fallen Crest Public (Fallen Crest High Series #3) by Tijan

Sam’s first day at Fallen Crest Public doesn’t go well. Some girls want to be her. Some girls want to destroy her. And some just don’t like her. All in all, despite being protected by Mason and Logan, it’s still only the strong survive. Sam will not only have to survive, she needs to learn how to conquer too, but there’s another battle growing. Things are about to come to a disastrous end between the towns, Roussou and Fallen Crest. Sam’s other main dilemma? Keeping Mason and Logan from getting arrested or hospitalized.

This is book 3 of the Fallen Crest Series. By now you’ve known all their enemies and how they fight to keep the ones they love, safe.

Now that Sam needs to start school at the Fallen Crest Public, she finds out that she has to fight for herself and not let Mason and Logan fight her battles.

This book was heavier than normal, but I am aware Tijan writes things that press on your soul, so I was not disappointed. Spent all night reading this one, and when I woke up, I was still heavily feeling the book.

After Sam gets hurt, Mason has a plan. He knows his plan will hurt her too, but he’ll do whatever he needs to keep her safe. This part gutted me, because I am no fan of cheating, but there was NO cheating since she knew about it the whole time. Fair warning: he just pretends to date Kate, but he will not sleep with her.

As I always say, I try to judge a book by my feelings afterwards. This one left me dry.

Fallen Crest High (Fallen Crest High Series #1) by Tijan

Mason and Logan Kade are two brothers who did their own thing. They were rich and expected to attend Samantha’s school, Fallen Crest Academy. They chose public school and now she has to live with them. The problem is that she doesn’t care at all: about them, about her friends, about her cheating boyfriend, or even about her parent’s divorce. But maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe change is a good thing.

This book contains adult/mature young adult situations.

I am sure, by now, most people have read and re-read Tijan’s Fallen Crest series. I know I have, but that was when I wasn’t reviewing on this blog, so I wanted to re-read them and have my thoughts fresh.

The first book starts with Mason and Logan Kade, the kings of Fallen Crest Public. They are legends and everyone wants to be with them. With that power and people in their past that took advantage, things don’t play well when Sam’s mother moves her into their home to be with their Dad. Now, she’s the stepsister of these 2 boys and funnily enough, she tries to  hide that as much as possible. Since she goes to the Fallen Crest Academy, with all their rich kids, some hate her when they find out she is close with the brothers.

Mason has his reasons to keep an eye on Sam, but she soon becomes more.

I think this book is fulled with the “politics” of this town’s high school and we learn how their world is run. More than that, who runs it.

This series is GREAT! If you’re a newbie, pick it up because it will keep you busy for a whole week. I guarantee it.

Beware that thier story continues in Fallen Crest Public.

Taming a Maverick (Sterling Shore #11) by C.M. Owens

Just some fun. Just one night of reckless, harmless, wild fun.

That’s what I told myself the night I hooked up with quite possibly the sexiest guy I’ve ever known. Only, I didn’t want to KNOW him. Life is a series of temporary situations, or so it’s always been for me. A future revolves around the next move, but I’m still the type to live in the moment on a seldom occasion, consequences be damned.

Unless that moment happens to be unknowingly landing in bed with my brand new stepbrother. The universe is a mean, twisted jerk. And one consequence is that I have to be around him and get to know him. The worst consequence is the fact that Maverick Sterling, the infamous playboy who can’t possibly be tamed, is really hard not to want more of once you’ve had a taste. So long as I’m not stupid enough to fall in love, it shouldn’t be a big deal. Right?

My life has been blissfully simple for a really long time. I have a routine. I have friends. I have family. Yet everyone seems to have less and less time, since they’re all sort of trying to be adults or what the hell ever. I blame them for the fact the only girl to ever ditch me without a backward glance is suddenly under my skin. I blame my father for the fact she’s a new fixture in my life. Not that I knew that before I got a little overly friendly with my new stepsister. I mean, what are the odds? It shouldn’t have been possible.

But it happened. It figures the one girl I can’t get out of my head is the one girl who doesn’t want to be with me. At least in my head she’s the only girl who doesn’t want to be with me, because I tend to be arrogant like that. The point is, now she’s everywhere I turn, yet she’s marking a line in the sand that she thinks I really won’t cross.

Obviously she doesn’t know me at all.

*Can be read as a stand-alone
*Sexual Content
*Adult Language

There is no doubt that CM Owens’s Sterling Shore series is one of my absolute favorite out there.

I was fortunate to arrive late on the Sterling train, meaning I just had to wait a bit to get up to date on the last books of the series. Unfortunate, because I kissed a lot of frogs until I got my hands on this baby. I am telling you, this series is GOLD!

Maverick is the guy you want to have as a best friend. He is hilarious and his pranks on Bella made me love him more. He is a serious flirt and if you wonder who got his attention, you need to meet Salem.

Every book can be read as a standalone, but i think you would do an injustice to not starts at the beginning and get to know each and every character.

Salem and her little brother have a mother that change husbands more than often, and she is forced to move into her stepdad’s house. After she had a one night stand with the famous Maverick, she learns that they are stepbrothers. Talk about a buzz kill, but Maverick is more than interested in why Salem can resit his charm and their sexual tension is off the charts.

Imagine a female Maverick and you get Salem.

Read the damn series, I am telling you, you won’t regret it.

Endgame (Ocean Bay #1) by Chloe Walsh

My name is Mercy James and I’ve always had a three-point plan.
1.Don’t fall in love in high-school.
2.Get through senior year and snag a full-ride scholarship to college.
3.Get the hell away from my irresponsible mother.
I didn’t think that was too much to ask for, and I’ve worked damn hard to make it a reality.
Until my mother went and did the unthinkable!
She’s pregnant.
Yep, the woman-child only went and got herself knocked-up by a man who lives on the other side of the country.
As if it wasn’t bad enough to uproot my life six weeks before senior year, Mom’s new beau comes with baggage.
A sweet stepsister, Amelia.
And the b*stard of all b*stards, Rourke.
Rourke is a senior like me, and he doesn’t want me in his town, much less his home. He’s also hell bent on making sure I know it.
Thing is, I don’t want to be there either, and if Rourke expects me to swan in and kiss his ass to make him like me, he has another thing coming.
I’m nobody’s bitch and he’s about to learn that…

Endgame is a feisty standalone romance. Due to its explicit content, bad language, and graphic sexual content, Endgame is recommended for mature readers of seventeen years and above.

Title: Endgame
Author: Chloe Walsh
Publication Date: June 5th, 2017
Shelves: Contemporary; Romance;
Format: Kindle (451 pages)
Rating: 9/10

Endgame is an Enemies to Lovers standalone romance. Mercedes “Mercy” James is a 17-year-old girl who had to raise herself from an early age. Her mother always chased a new man all the time, but now she has done the unthinkable: she ended up pregnant and both of them have to go live with her new husband.

But while she has to do this, it’s still 1 year until she goes to collage and she’ll have to do this last thing until she’s free. What she had not planned is meeting Rourke and Amelia, her new stepbrother and sister. While Amelia is sweet, Rourke plans to make her life a living hell.

“Disgust, loathing, disappointment, mild boredom, and pure hatred. He wasn’t going to accept me, I realized. Well, fuck him.”

Now, what Rourke had not planned is being attracted to her, and that she will be a match to his bullying. He will call her Six, because she’s the sixth sibling they had so far; his father is as bad as her mother.
When the parents leave for an extended honeymoon, things will turn for the worst until feelings will have to be involved.

“You asked me once what my endgame was…Ask me the question, Six.”
“What’s your endgame, Rourke?”
“You. You are my endgame, Six.”

This book reminds me of Abbi Glines’ series “Fallen too far” or Erin Watt’s “The Royals”. If you’re a fan on one or the other, read them.
