Mariana Zapata is one of the authors I will always one click and read every single time she releases a new book.

Beware, all her books are extremely slow burn, but personally I really love them. Sometimes I feel like she writes them exactly related to my feelings and wants. Her Heroine are unique and they grow.

Aurora needs to start over. She gets through a divorce she didn’t see coming and she wants to start over in the small town she was born and raised until her mother turned out missing.

There she rents a studio apartment from Rhodes, a warden that raises his kid alone. What is worst is that kid went and rented the place without him knowing.

Aurora goes through a lot of grief but she will grow so much and get close to Rhodes.

I really loved this book but still, to be honest, the best books from MZ are still Kulti, From Lukov with love, Wait for itand The Wall of Winnipeg.

Dear Aaron by Mariana Zapata

Ruby Santos knew exactly what she was getting herself into when she signed up to write a soldier overseas.

The guidelines were simple: one letter or email a week for the length of his or her deployment. Care packages were optional.

Been there, done that. She thought she knew what to expect.

What she didn’t count on was falling in love with the guy.

Pfff… Mariana Zapata is the mastermind of all slow burn romances!!! Really, she’s perfect.

Dear Aaron stars the sister or our beloved Jasmine, Ruby Santos.

Aaron is in an letter exchange program, made to help soldiers oversees but having a person of contact.

I loved reading their exchange and learning more about them through this way of character build-up.

Would you avoid reading a book where your main characters fall in love by letters? Nope, so go for it!!!

Hands Down by Mariana Zapata
Before he was Big Texas, he was Zac the Snack Pack.

Bianca Brannen knows time—mostly—heals all wounds. Including those your once loved ones might have unintentionally given you. (Those just take longer.)

She thinks she’s ready when a call has her walking back into her old friend’s life. Or at least as prepared as possible to see the starting quarterback in the National Football Organization. Before the lights, the fans, and the millions, he’d been a skinny kid with a heart of gold.

Waltzing out of Zac Travis’s life should be easy. Just as easy as he walked out of hers.

*** coming in July! Zac from Winnipeg is getting a book! This will be a live release. Comment to get notify when the book is LIVE.

If you would like to read a couple of teaser chapters for HANDS DOWN, you can follow the link to get to it here

I know this will be no surprise to you, since you read this review because either your a fan of MZ, or slowburns in general, or a newbie, but this book is fantastic.

Again, I am a bit biased, because I LOVE all the books MZ has written. Sorry, not sorry.

Mariana Zapata is the queen of slowburns, in my opinion, and I had to try and search for other authors but none top her books. Seriously.

If you’ve read The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, you’ve met Zac before. It’s not necessary to read that before this, but I highly recommend it. Plus it’s one of my favorite books ever. You can have it here.

Bianca has been in Zac’s life since she was a tiny baby, but the last 10 years life had it’s course and they lost touch. Not because she wanted to, but he became busy. Now, her cousin wants her to look for Zac and tell him, his grandfather is in the hospital.

Funny things is, when Bianca meets Zac for the first time in 10 years, he does not even recognize her. Because now, she’s 27 so she’s an adult. A very beautiful woman.

This book is all about rekindling a friendship that turned more for Bianca. She knows how much his rejection hurt her, so she’s taking things slow and without meaning it, she falls back in love with her best friend. What will be different this time? Zac has feelings too.

The Best Thing by Mariana Zapata

Some things are easily forgiven. Other things… not so much.

Lenny DeMaio made herself a promise: she was done.

Done thinking about him.

Done worrying about him.

Done reaching out to a man who clearly didn’t want to be found.

Too bad no one gave Jonah Collins the memo.

Title: The Best Thing
Author: Mariana Zapata
Publication Date: August 7th, 2019

Format: Kindle (493 pages)
Rating: 10/10

I think I would love everything Mariana Zapata will write. I developed a game for myself to try and find another extremely good writer on slow burns, but so far, I’ve come short. She is one of my go to authors and I’ll re-read her books ‘till the day I die.

The Best Thing is the story of Lenny DeMaio, Luna’s best friend and how she ended up after a trip to France, where she met Jonah Collins and ended up pregnant with his baby girl.

The catch is that now, Jonah is back, and he just found out he has a baby girl. Before, he planned on convincing Lenny to get back together with him, but now he needs her to trust him again. And trust requires time and commitment, things that Jonah is willing to step up.

Jonah is a rugby player who had an injury that made him disappear, because he though his life was over. Little did he know how this will impact his life had he confined in Lenny and stayed with her.

I don’t want to spoiler much, but this is a must read! The side characters are to die for, Lenny is a kick ass heroine that will blow you away, and Jonah.. well, he’s from New Zeeland. Enough said, read the book or listen to it on audio and you’re in for a treat.

Under Locke by Mariana Zapata

He was my boss, my brother’s friend, a Widower, an ex-felon, and a man I’d seen casually with a handful of women. But he was everything that gripped me, both the good and the bad. Worst case scenario if things turned awkward between us, I could go somewhere else. I’d gotten over epic heartbreak before, one more wouldn’t kill me.

After moving to Austin following six months of unemployment back home, Iris Taylor knows she should be glad to have landed a job so quickly… even if the business is owned by a member of the same motorcycle club her estranged father used to belong to. Except Dex Locke might just be the biggest jerk she’s ever met. He’s rude, impatient and doesn’t know how to tell time.

And the last thing they ever expected was each other.

But it was either the strip club or the tattoo shop.

… she should have chosen the strip club.

The funny thing is that this was my last read of Mariana Zapata’s books and even though I caught a glimpse of Dex and Iris from other book, I had a feeling that maybe I should read her the rest before Under Locke. Well, let me tell you how this book, with bikers and tattoos and all drama became one of my favorite reads of all of 2018. I know I am late to the party, but I know some of you might envy me because I know the feeling of it when other people read books I love for the first time.

Again, I say Mariana Zapata is a must read to me and a must buy whenever she has something new. I love it that much that I don’t even read the blurb before, I just dive right in without any safety nets because I know for a fact that I will be very happy after finishing it and I am never disappointed.

Iris Taylor moves from the safety of her home to live in with her half-brother, after having such a hard time to find employment. Even though she is “royalty” to the gang that her father formally had a part in, her brother still is an active member. She was kept in the dark about them and her mother wanted to protect her from that life, but now she has no choice and go to Austin.
She is being employed as a favor to her brother, but Dex is not a easy person to have around. She will figure out the world of the Widoemaker’s Motorcycle Club and soon start to be a part of it, because she will need to be kept safe due to some troubles being brought to her by her dead-bit of a father. Dex has a tattoo shop and she will be the front desk for customers.

I related a lot with Iris because she is a cancer survivor and that for me is too close for home. I love strong characters, even if she is at first shy and nervous, but soon we can see her true self and so does Dex.
Dex, oh my God, Dex Locke is my all time male bad boy – love to death trouble maker / perfect husband material. I enjoyed myself the course it took to love him so much, especially since in the beginning he was so arrogant and bossy that you wanted to just knock him out.

“Babe, I’ve handpicked everythin’ and everyone in here. I know what I want and I get what I want,” he breathed. “And I keep what’s mine.”

What I did not enjoy is the virgin thing, really, I kind of grew tired of it, especially in the world we are living now, when I really enjoy and root for bad-ass females who know who they are and love their body and take what they want to reach a point in life where you know what you are looking for. Except for that, I understand the struggles that Iris went though and can pass that out.

“Knew the moment I saw you, standin’ outside the shop, scared, that you were an innocent little thing. So sweet. So good.” He lowered his head to take my chin between his teeth. “You got no idea what it’s like for you to give me your trust, Ritz. If I was a good man I’d tell you to find somebody better, somebody that won’t lose their shit over an asshole eye fuckin’ you.” His tongue traced the oval shape of my chin. “But I’m not a good man, and I’m gonna take everythin’ you want to give me and everythin’ you don’t.”

And on a serious note, I found some interesting things about tattoos and how to people relate to them.

Luna and the Lie by Mariana Zapata

The problem with secrets is that they’re too easy to keep collecting.

Luna Allen has done some things she would rather no one ever know about. She also knows that, if she could go back in time, she wouldn’t change a single thing.

With three sisters she loves, a job she (mostly) adores, and a family built up of friends she’s made over the years, Luna figures everything has worked out the way it was supposed to.

But when one of those secrets involves the man who signs her paycheck, she can’t find it in her to regret it. Despite the fact that he’s not the friendliest man in the world. Or the most patient.

Sometimes there are things you’re better off keeping to yourself.

Title: Luna and the lie

Publication Date: December 12th, 2018

Format: Kindle (580 pages)
Rating: 10/10

Before reading Luna and the Lie, I though Mariana Zapata was good, but now, I think she is one of my favorite authors to read. I cannot wait what she delivers next, but man, I’ll be there waiting. While others may think this book is long, or that maybe too much detail is brought into it, I actually don’t mind that on her books. I really just enjoy it as much as I can and read them as slow as I can, because for me, they are food to my soul.
Mariana Zapata introduced me to slow burns, and I feel like I owe it to her to enjoy it as much as I can.

“The best decisions of my life had been those I’d jumped into terrified even though some part of me knew they were necessary.”

Again, I read her books without checking anything before, I just buy them or pre-order it as soon as they are visible and read them with an evil grin because I know I will not be disappointed.
I enjoy books where the female lead starts slow, and uncovers to be a real bad-ass woman, which is the case here: Luna Allen is a unique woman who avoids confrontations at all cost and annoys the heck out of Rip. She is so positive and helps others that much, that she becomes the one who is always left aside and has nobody to take care of her soul. When I say take care of her, I mean somebody to really get her and just be there for her in a way that she is always to her sisters. The reason they are in a better place is because she has devoted her life to taking care of them and I don’t think she was repaid for her life choices.
I enjoyed that Luna works at a place where she is the only female in a world of men. I liked how she was there for everybody and how her little things affected them, like remembering birthday cakes and anniversaries for her colleagues. I got mad when she did not stand for herself and made easier for others to just use her and treat her bad, but man, she got them in the end!

“I swear to God, you’re a fucking puzzle I thought was all in the box, but every damn day I find a piece or two hidden all over the place.”

I like to be surprised by people and to prove me wrong when I wrongfully categorize them, and for sure Luna got me there. I would think she is a bit weak and fragile, but not the case anymore. In a world where Rip has done some bad things in the past and Luna has family that will come to screw her life apart, all their choices make sense at the very end.

“People think they have to be lions or lambs, but I’ve always just wanted to be something in between.” I bit my lip and lifted a shoulder. “Something that still has sharp teeth, just in case.”

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata

Vanessa Mazur knows she’s doing the right thing. She shouldn’t feel bad for quitting. Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary. She has plans and none of them include washing extra-large underwear longer than necessary.

But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door wanting her to come back, she’s beyond shocked.

For two years, the man known as The Wall of Winnipeg couldn’t find it in him to tell her good morning or congratulate her on her birthday. Now? He’s asking for the unthinkable.

What do you say to the man who is used to getting everything he wants?

Title: The Wall if Winnipeg and Me

Author: Mariana Zapata

Publication Date: February 28th, 2016

Shelves: Contemporary; Romance; Sports

Format: Kindle (673 pages)

Rating: 10/10

Well, for starters I’ve already said in other reviews that I don’t read any blurbs of Mariana Zapata’s books; I just buy and read them as they are. So without knowing anything about it, the title did not give anything to me, just that maybe it was with sports in it. I like to though myself out there and be surprised with a good book, that I know it will be a good book, especially since everybody fusses about this one. Let me tell you I back them up! I really loved everything about “The Wall of Winnipeg and Me”.

I never stops to amaze me how much I love these incredibly long slow burns!! They are food to my soul.

Vanessa (Van) Mazur is the personal assistant to football player Aiden Graves aka “The Wall of Winnipeg”. She has been doing her job for over 2 years in order to raise money and start her business so that she can be her own boss and not stand more tantrums of anyone, especially Aiden. Finally she has enough and quits, but Aiden does not want her to do that, so I think he actually was that clever from the beginning and made her a proposition that she could never refuse. He got a way to keep her and her wife and marry her in an agreement for 5 years, so that he can get his American Visa.

“I was going to murder his ass. One day. One day long after I quit, so no one would suspect me.”

In this incredible universe of slow burns, I very much enjoy myself when falling in love with characters at the same rate they do, which connects me on a different level with the book.

Their romance has left me to swoon to death, because I truly feel that even if you are a busy man, in a busy world and only think about career, if you love somebody, you make time. You make as much as possible to be with that person even if you have to make big adjustments to your world to include them, and that is why Aiden, for me, us a dream man.

“I don’t know,” I stuttered, “Do you love me?”
His gaze was so intent the entire world seemed to stop. “You tell me. I never stop thinking about you. I worry about you all the time. Every beautiful thing I see reminds me of you. I can’t finish my practices in Colorado with out wishing you were around,” he said in a steady tone. “You tell me what I feel.”

Wait for it by Mariana Zapata

If anyone ever said being an adult was easy, they hadn’t been one long enough. Diana Casillas can admit it: she doesn’t know what the hell she’s doing half the time. How she’s made it through the last two years of her life without killing anyone is nothing short of a miracle. Being a grown-up wasn’t supposed to be so hard. With a new house, two little boys she inherited the most painful possible way, a giant dog, a job she usually loves, more than enough family, and friends, she has almost everything she could ever ask for. Except for a boyfriend. Or a husband. But who needs either one of those?

Title: Wait for it

Author: Mariana Zapata

Publication Date: December 7th, 2016

Shelves: Contemporary; Romance; Slow burn

Format: Kindle (670 pages)

Rating: 10/10

“Wait for it” was actually my first slow burn book, ever, if I dare say so. I know, I know, what was I thinking?! I remember keep asking myself what was happening, because the pages kept on turning and no sexy time was happening, and I was quite confused because by now something should happen, and in the beginning I did not even know who the male participant was, because, well, I was wrongfully assuming that the bad guy will become good and bla bla bla…

I am so glad that my love for slow burns started with Mariana Zapata because she is absolutely brilliant and makes me swoon so bad, that when I figure it out that she has so far only 9 books out, I kept treating them as the very good desert that you want to drag out as much as possible. Yup! This happens sometimes, when I know that book is that good, that I start to read slowly so I can enjoy it more.

“What do you want from me?”
“Everything.”

The books written by her are so good that I don’t even read any review, just dive right in because I know it’s going to be a treat!

What I liked the most about Diana Casillas, is that she is an incredible character and raises her two nephews, Josh and Louie, because her brothers passed away and their mother is not stable enough to raise them. She treats them as her own, while dealing with the loss of her most beloved brother.

“It was about everything. About life and death, and white and black and gray. It was about having to be tough when you weren’t used to it. About having to grow when you’d thought you were done growing. In the back of my head, I knew what I’d said didn’t make any damn sense. But how could I explain? How could I begin to tell him that I had lost a part of myself with my brother’s death, and I was trying so hard to keep what I had left together with duct tape and paper clips?”

“All I could think about as I stood there was that sometimes life gave you a tragedy that burned everything you knew to the ground and changed you completely. But somehow, if you really wanted to, you could learn how to hold your breath as you made your way through the smoke left in its wake and you could keep going. And sometimes, sometimes, you could grow something beautiful from the ashes that were left behind. If you were lucky.”

I was so caught up in the story and it was so beautifully written, that I cannot for the love of me give less then 5 starts to this lovely book.

The story of Diana and Dallas unfolds really slow, but what I liked more of it is that it made me discover and love Dallas at the same time she did, which was kind of surprising, because I viewed him as a jerk. He was so used to moms hitting on him that it made him so full of himself, but that only made it funnier to read.

We meet everybody when they start a new life I a new city. Her first night here she helps a stranger who is being beaten right in front of her house. My first assumption is that he will be the leading male character, but boy how wrong was I? His brother actually is. Soon-to-be divorcee, Dallas Walker meets Diana when she brings home his troubled brother. From there they make their connection when Dallas is couching her kid’s team and they soon begin to form a beautiful friendship, but not after some uncomfortable situations where he comes out as a real jackass.

I really loved that he waits until his divorce is over to reveal his feelings toward her, and their story is so beautifully written and with so much detail that all do is feel and feel as the pages keep on turning.

There is no reading order for Mariana Zapata’s book, but some characters will find themselves in other books. That should not keep you bothered a bit. I actually enjoyed finding out who they are and where they connect.

Kulti by Mariana Zapata

“Trust me, I’ve wanted to punch you in the face a time or five.”

When the man you worshipped as a kid becomes your coach, it’s supposed to be the greatest thing in the world. Keywords: supposed to.

It didn’t take a week for 27-year-old Sal Casillas to wonder what she’d seen in the international soccer icon – why she’d ever had his posters on her wall or ever envisioned marrying him and having super-playing soccer babies.

Sal had long ago gotten over the worst non-break-up in the history of imaginary relationships with a man who hadn’t known she’d existed. So she isn’t prepared for this version of Reiner Kulti who shows up to her team’s season: a quiet, reclusive shadow of the explosive, passionate man he’d once been.

Title: Kulti

Author: Mariana Zapata

Publication Date: March 25th, 2015

Shelves: Contemporary; Romance; Sports; Age difference

Format: Kindle (570 pages)

Rating: 10/10

“Kulti” is one of my re-reads and will be forever there! Every year I have a list that I re-read because they are simply beautiful books, and I respect the work of art. I loved how the story unfolds and I adore strong characters, and I feel that both are very strong.

Again, I find myself in the position where I read Mariana Zapata’s books so slowly that I want to have as much time with them as possible. I genuinely envy people that read her books for the first time. YUP! I am that person, but I don’t care! They are that good. And I don’t mind that they are so long, because there is nothing more than gaining more pages to read.

The book was picked up to read randomly since I love all her work, so I new nothing about it. I didn’t even read the blurb.

The story is about a professionally soccer player Salome “Sal” Casillas and her assistant couch, the famous Reiner Kulti. Sal is a very driven woman, who has a self-worth that I really admire on athletes and her ambition that meets no boundaries. I loved how the book develops around her. She is very fulfilled in her life that she does not need anyone to deviate her from her goal in becoming one of the best professional soccer players in the world. Kulti on the other hand is a very quiet man, who only says rude words and makes no effort to actually couch or assist the girls with anything soccer related. He just exists and makes others be uncomfortable around him. I very much enjoyed the feistiness of Sal when she confronts him, I really love a strong female in such a masculine world. But with every attempt to break him, Kulti is there and makes himself present even if it’s not easy.

I enjoyed the drama that comes knocking on Sal’s door, and how Kulti will change her life for the better. They slowly become friends but there is a price to pay for that since she will have some challenges to go though on a personal level that will affect her professional life.

“You know your reputation is just what everyone else thinks of you, your character is what you really are.”

The ending was heart-worming and so beautiful that you know it pays off reading such a long book. I am glad that Kulti will offer himself as a life line to help her grow and become the better version of herself that he sees especially since she is the reason he picked her team to coach.

“What would I gain from telling you the first moment I realized you were meant to be mine? Nothing. You’re supposed to protect what you love, Sal. You taught me that. I didn’t wake up one day and know I didn’t want to live without your horrible temper. I saw so much of me in you at first, but you aren’t like me at all. You’re you, and I will go to my grave before I let anyone change any part of you. I know that without a doubt in my mind. This,” he pointed between us. “This is what matters.”

Usually I hold a bit to myself on the age difference, probably because I have not read many books related to this, and I really hope someone will change my mind about it. In this instance it didn’t matter much, I know there is quite some years between them, but it did not bother me. It actually made sense because his experience is what makes his character they way he is, and I am glad to see a man support the dream of a woman.

“This is what matters. You are my gift, my second chance, and I will cherish you and your dream. I will protect both of you.”

There is no reading order for Mariana Zapata’s book, but some characters will find themselves in other books. That should not keep you bothered a bit. I actually enjoyed finding out who they are and where they connect.

From Lukov With Love by Mariana Zapata

If someone were to ask Jasmine Santos to describe the last few years of her life with a single word, it would definitely be a four-letter one.

After seventeen years—and countless broken bones and broken promises—she knows her window to compete in figure skating is coming to a close.

But when the offer of a lifetime comes in from an arrogant idiot she’s spent the last decade dreaming about pushing in the way of a moving bus, Jasmine might have to reconsider everything.

Including Ivan Lukov.

Title: From Lukov with Love
Author: Mariana Zapata
Publication Date: February 1st, 2018
Shelves: Contemporary; Romance; Sports
Format: Kindle (493 pages)
Rating: 8/10

For starters, this is my first book on figure skating. Since I was a little girl, I would watch with my mother all championships on TV – that brought me sweet memories. Back in high school, I often wrote essays with Ghostwriting Agentur on the subject of figure skating. The service often corrected my mistakes and I developed my style and dreamed of learning to skate.

Secondly, I always know a good book when I reach 8% on my Kindle and look forward to see what it brings, even if I know that they will end up together, I just enjoy the ride.

When I start a book at 7 in the evening and finish it at 5 in the morning, I know I ve read a good book.

What brought this book in my line of sight was the many good reviews I ve seen on the websites I hunt for fabulous books.

The story follows Jasmine Santos, a very talented and har working figure skater, a character that makes a lot of sacrifices for doing what she loves. I relate with her stubbornness and her will to become better on what she does best. We will learn how she evolves, but what I don t really understand is why she wasn t that good from the beginning, even though everybody praised her. Maybe it does matter your partner, just as we will find out, same as it does in the real world on every aspect of our life. Ivan Lukov comes to help her when she needed it most, after a year without a partner, where she would train alone. I had from the beginning the feeling that he wanted her, even if the chemistry between them comes with hard words, but most of the time funny ones. I enjoyed both characters very much, but maybe I would have loved more intimacy between them. I think I would have loved Ivan to be an Alpha Male, stronger and more arrogant on what concerns Jasmine as a woman.

Also I would have loved reading more about their competitions, about the feeling of winning, reaching, finally, on what you desire most, especially when one does that many sacrifices. As would have loved to imagine myself on that rink. These are the cons that I see most, but all in all I enjoyed the book a lot.

I am used to read about male characters which are arrogant, taking what they want without asking, and I wish Ivan was one of them. Oh well…

I read a lot; 2018 isn t even ending and I have more than 200 books so far this year, so I know that I really really enjoy a double POV. Maybe Ivan will have a book with his thoughts.. who knows?!

Finally, this book [resents you a world where many who nothing about, a hardworking world, with full of sacrifices, where we learn that when you wish it that much, you get it.
