Fate Knows Best (Kindred of Arkadia Book 1) by Alanea Alder

**Alanea’s Note** This is a re-release of a previously published title. It has been re-edited and a bit more content has been added, but nothing that would change the story dramatically. As always thank you for your support! Enjoy!

After her boss became her ex-boyfriend and turned her life inside out, Rebecca is on the road looking for adventure and a place to call home. She never imagined the mysterious road she would take would lead her to a grumpy hot Sheriff, a gorgeous playboy and a group of gay fashionistas, or, that they would be bear and lion shifters. Reading about being a shifter’s mate was one thing, living it was another.

Aleks has sworn off human women. After working a brutal homicide he as returned to the shifter-only town of his birth to date the local shifter women and hopefully find a nice female bear-shifter to give him cubs. When Fate throws him an itty, bitty human as a mate, he refuses to have anything to do with her.

As the attraction between them grows Aleks realizes that he can’t seem to stay away from the tiny dark-haired human, but the realization may come too late, as he faces the fact that though her body was never in any danger, he may have shattered her heart.

He wonders if she will be safe with him and she wonders if she will ever be what he he truly wants.

In the end they will both see that, Fate Knows Best.

My Warrior (Bewitched and Bewildered #12) by Alanea Alder is being released on August 25th.

Ari Lionhart is the youngest warrior in Èire Danu, yet despite his lack of years, he is trusted by the queen’s consort Brennus to act as the unit leader for every unit in the fae city. He works hard at balancing his life between being a unit warrior and being a Lionhart, and secretly fears he is failing at both. With a genius politician for a father and two older brothers that are shining examples of what it means to be a warrior and an Elder, how can he possibly try to do both with any degree of success.
When their city unexpectedly faces tragedy after tragedy, and a vote of No Confidence is brought before the queen on how these things are being handled, and Ari finds himself facing his greatest fear, failure.
Brie Wilson has been a Deputy Sheriff in Monroe for years. She loves the small town of her birth and the laid back atmosphere that makes it a wonderful and safe place to live. But even small towns have their own quirks and problems. Outside a few exceptions at the station, she pushes daily for her efforts to be recognized by the men on the force. Still smarting over her last break up where her ex likened her to a man, she decides the safest route is to stick to herself and never get her heart broken again.
When these two selfless warriors find one another can they learn to lean on one another before the body count escalates? What does it say about them when it’s easier to face murder than the deepening feelings they have for one another.

I have been waiting a long time for this book to come, and since it has finally arrived I tried to read it as slowly as possible.

Usually I re-read the series before but because of the quarantine days, I have reached my limit of how many books I’ve re-read.

Going in, I felt a bit overwhelmed, because i tried to remember who is who, especially the latest warriors of Èire Danu, so I strongly suggest reading this after going through book 11 for a bit.

Ari Lionhart is the baby and the youngest brother of the Lionheart family. Having Declan and Rex as big brothers has made him being babied a lot, even if now he is one of the most respected warrior in Èire Danu. He meets his mate during a horrific scene where a lot of fae were killed. There comes human Brie Wilson, a deputy and his mate. I love that Brie is such a force and people follow her lead.

I feel like this book has some changes, because it was not the usual save your mate kind of thing, just more information and plot twists for the BIG STORY. Meryn is still being Meryn so nothings has changed in that aspect, but even though we know more and more to the story, questions are still being left unanswered.

Beware of the major cliffy at the end. God, what a cliffhanger. I feel restless already, just thinking how much time until book 13.

So far, today. August 26th, there are no news of any kind regarding the 13th book to come.

PS: Dear Ms. Alanea, can I be your writing buddy? You can stay in bed and I can type whatever you have in mind. I love this series and it brings such joy in my life.

Excerpt

My Warrior – Unedited – Copyright Alanea Alder 2020
Meryn spun back around. “So the queen is stuck on being stubborn stupid.”
“Meryn,” Aiden chided.
“What? It’s true. She’s smart enough to realize that what we’re reporting is true. She’s just wallowing in guilt and pity and it’s making her obstinate.”
Aiden gave her a flat look then pointed around the table. “She is still their queen.”
Meryn crossed her arms over her chest. “Well, she’s my aunt so I can say what I want cuz I’m family.”
Kathrine sat back cradling her tea. “If it were for any other reason I would say she’s more than earned the time to process, but we’re already fielding concerns from cat and bird shifters alike.” She looked at them, sadness in her eyes. “They want to leave Éire Danu.”
Meryn’s nostrils flared. “She has one tiny hiccup and they’re ready to abandon ship?”
Jedrek shook his head. “Meryn, if she told us to fight and die defending Éire Danu, we would, to the last man. It’s the blatant denial that has everyone spooked. They’re afraid that when the time comes the city won’t be prepared to face what may happen.”
Leo and Ryuu came in carrying heavy platters. “I thought it got quiet in here. Soundproofing spell?” Leo asked.
Rex nodded absently before turning to Meryn. “Is there anyway you can convince the queen to send out a public message. Even something as simple as, she’s looking into the matter could make all the difference in the world.”
Ari sighed happily as eggs and bacon were piled on his plate. He had just taken a huge bite when Meryn gasped loudly, causing him to almost choke.
He pounded his own chest as Meryn grinned wickedly around the table. “I know what I can do! In times like this you’re supposed to help family. You know, give them encouragement and stickers.” She frowned. “Or something. Ryuu’s been helping me understand familial dynamics.” She looked around the table. “But more than stickers I know what I can do to help Aunt Aleks.”
Ari was terrified to discover what this ticking time bomb was planning.
Aiden looked absolutely sick as he stared at his mate. “What’s that baby?”
“I’m gonna take over Éire Danu.”
Boom
“Oh gods above, please give me strength,” Aiden prayed fervently.
Meryn sat back looking positively pleased with herself.
Ari looked over to Rex who was convulsing with laughter. “Can she do that?” he whispered.
Rex wiped his eyes and reached for the spoon to the bowl of fresh berries. “Brother, you will quickly learn there isn’t much this amazing child can’t do.” He turned to his father. “I’ll be at the palace if you need me. I wouldn’t miss this for anything in the world.”

Wow, this is by far the most interesting book of the series! Finally, we get some real damn answers regarding Meryn’s birth / family tree.

My Solace rotates on Oron Vi’Eirson and Isabelle Campbell. He is Darian’s brother, and Queen Aleksandra’s adopted son. Izzy is a human that was dealt with a lot in her life but found herself closer to a Vanguard crew. Fate brings them together as soon as they reach the town of Monroe.

Whenever I am reading one of these books, I try really hard to read it slowly to assimilate everything and catch anything that might be considered as a subtle clue.

We still don’t know about Meryn 2.0 but I love how everyone refers to a baby but use plural in the same sentence, so for sure there is going to be a twin or maybe triplets. That is yet to be revealed. Anyway, Meryn eats for probably an army, so it is very plausible.

Oron and Izzy are such a sweet couple, that they fit in well enough with the squad. Some things will change for Oron and the Royal family and I am glad things turned for the better. When you look at the bigger picture, Meryn has family connections to everyone everywhere.

So excited to find out more and cannot wait until the next book comes out! This series is close to my heart.

First of all, let me tell you how this review is written: after reading all 10 books in a row because I couldn’t help myself to take a break and write the review, I re started reading them again, one by one so I can write this. Crazy? NO!! that is just my excuse to re-read this series as much as I can.

I was so angry after I finished the 10th book when I figured it out that I stopped right down the middle when things got more and more exciting and I really need the next one like half a year ago! From what I can tell, based on the structure that the author is releasing these books, many another 10 books on the way??? Well that makes one like me a very happy person.

I started reading the “Bewitched and Bewildered” series when I was in a hunt to read some very hilarious books, and in every single thread somebody mentioned Alanea Alder’s books. Just let me tell you that they made me laugh out loud, got banned from reading them at night because my husband would lose his sleep from my laughter! Or ship me to another room and be quiet!!!

During my time making this review I have noticed that there are 2 sides of fans for the series: 1 part of which I am also an active participant which absolutely loved the books and find it hilarious and the 2nd part which gives reviews with words like immature, ridiculous and couldn’t even finish the first book to find out more that happens during the series. Well, I don’t blame which side you are, everyone is entitled to an opinion!

From my point of view, the story is so clever written that I absolutely am in love with every little detail. It is one of my all-time favorite series and can’t wait to see what happens next!
If you are a reader who prefers only books with a reality check and hates the dose of silliness written all over, I don’t think this book is for you. Usually when I read books, I borrow all it has to offer, so for me, personally, I loved being part of that world, and actually did not mind that much the down parts that maybe someone would categorize these series as a DNF (insta-love for instance or too much “Doctor Who” references).

My One and Only is the story of Micah and Serenity, a hybrid from Storm Keep. Serenity’s witch abilities allow her to help manage the physical and emotional stresses on the victims. The story unfolds and we get more answers but more questions. More importantly: WHAT IS MERYN? Again, even if Meryn still comes first with every book out there, I don’t mind since I am more interested in the main event than the new couples adding up.

I personally felt that Micah was a bit of a manwhore, but easily overlook since there are so many characters so far and will be added in the future, and I enjoy the diversity of personalities and behavior among them. Micah is also here to find out some answers to a secret he is keeping.

Fair warning, this is the last book of the Noctem Falls Unit warriors, since the story will move to the land of Faye, Eiré Danu. I can say, I’m excited for the new pillar city and to be introduced to new characters, although I need to keep a list while reading.

Can’t wait for book 11 to come out since I suspect we’ll find a bit more answers to some burning questions. Sometimes I feel the books are moving too slowly, and except to having waited so long to read them, I don’t mind that when I do.

My Angel is all about Vivian Merch and Etain Vi’Aerlin, while the plot is still going strong. On a personal note, the couple were less interesting than I was expecting or used to in the previous books. But putting that aside, the things in Noctem Falls starts to tense up and shift to the worst, especially when the Founding Families starts to revolt. Even though this book comes with more revealing facts about the city’s politics and how the feral act, we can’t seem the escape the new questions that start to raise again.

As the series develops, I can’t seem to feel the need to miss the old characters, and maybe wish for a multiple POV book in the future?

All in all, I liked the fact that Etain has his own secrets and that Vivian is not quite what we expected, since she’s wrapped around in a interesting back story of he own.

My Defender is about two shifters, Grant Douglas a wolf shifter and Ellie Kimball, an elephant shifter.

The children in Noctem Falls become ill, but things look ok since Ellie is a pediatrician and she comes along with her grandmother who has also knowledge about care. Her medical research skills come in handy when they do not know how to save the children.

I think My Defender will show a lot of compassion and care toward Ellie, who is an over curly woman, and has been shamed her entire life about it. Grant on the other hand will make her feel beautiful and the fact that he has his own struggles while doing this will break you heart. Grant has been banned from his pack and has always thought he is a monster and that’s the reason why. It was heartbreaking to find out that when he joined the Units in the city, he has been self-learning how to speak and act like a proper person after being with the wild wolfs his entire childhood and adolescence.

I enjoyed how every new couple have other issues to settle, or different personalities and I just can’t wrap around how difficult it must be to make them unique but at the same time colliding with the world of Meryn.

My Champion is the story of Declan Lionheart, the second in command unit warrior and Kari Delaney, a vampire who has lived outside Noctem Falls.

Declan’s family is very well known in the paranormal world and soon would be getting more responsibilities in the city, helping Magnus. Kari is a successful personal assistant trainer who will also help Magnus with his duties. Her adopted brother, Avery, who also find his mate with the unit warrior Warrick, becomes the secretary for the office.

Thanks to Meryn’s battle tactics, she foresees some issues in the command line, and asks Kari to bring along her security unit. A lot of these things become handy when the evil meddles.

“Kari laughed when she heard Meryn. “Now I that have minions and mercenaries, I can take over the world.”
Aiden looked down at his mate, a terrified look on his face.”

On a personal note, I loved how everyone is gravitating around Meryn, just because I liked her so much from the beginning. I am aware that she is the main character of this series, and I’m happy to partake on discovering how she’ll rule their world. Every new couple will place a key member in the battle that is soon to come, so you just have to hang around and see how the pieces fit together. Let’s just say that along with Kari comes Law, a witch that knows more to Meryn, but raises more questions to us.

My Guardian (Bewitched and Bewildered #6) by Alanea Alder

The next chapter in the Bewitched and Bewildered series is about to begin.

Meryn and Beth have been summoned by Beth’s uncle and council elder, Magnus Rioux to the vampire’s pillar city of Noctem Falls. Meryn in a city of vampires, what could go wrong? Aiden and Gavriel are about to find out.

Eva Mae Miller has been around for a long time. But never in all of her centuries has she ever had to turn to vampires for sanctuary. But when whole paranormal families begin disappearing in her quiet Texas suburb, Eva knows that it’s time to set her pride aside and join the other refugees heading to Noctem Falls for protection.

Adriel Aristaios doesn’t know what to make of the small human his commander is mated to. Bethy assures him that Meryn is sane, but he’s not so sure. Magnus had to be out of his mind bringing a pregnant human and accident-prone Bethy back to the City of the Night, just as things are about to get ugly. To complicate matters Adriel is pretty sure the sassy, blonde shifter is his mate. How can he possibly do his duty and protect their Prince, when he has not only his commander’s mate and little Bethy to guard, but also the woman who has stolen his heart.

When racial tensions threaten to boil over and sink the city in chaos, Adriel surprisingly finds himself relying on wacky little Meryn and his mate to help keep things from turning violent. But as more information comes to light, it’s clear that someone is out to destroy his city. The question is will they find them in time?

First of all, let me tell you how this review is written: after reading all 10 books in a row because I couldn’t help myself to take a break and write the review, I re started reading them again, one by one so I can write this. Crazy? NO!! that is just my excuse to re-read this series as much as I can.

I was so angry after I finished the 10th book when I figured it out that I stopped right down the middle when things got more and more exciting and I really need the next one like half a year ago! From what I can tell, based on the structure that the author is releasing these books, many another 10 books on the way??? Well that makes one like me a very happy person.

My Guardian is the story of Adrien Aristaios and Eva Mae Miller.

When Meryn and Beth are invited to go to Noctem Falls to help Prince Magnus they soon find things that are very disturbing and agree to help out. The Vampire city is so old fashioned, and their people are not that open-minded as they hoped. All goes south when the city opens their gates to a wolf pack that are on the run. In this pack Adriel, the vampire unit warrior finds his mare, a tiger shifter.

“Eva swung her legs over the side of her cot and stood up. Meryn did the same and now Eva was the one staring. “Where’s the rest of you?”

Meryn crossed her arms. “Somewhere between ‘fuck’ and ‘you’, I think.”

Eva chuckled. “I like you.”
More questions arise along the way, when we find out that Adriel is related to Gavriel.
“You can’t adopt people like kittens! Aiden growled.
‘I wouldn’t know; someone wouldn’t let me get a kitten’, Meryn retorted.
‘Fine, you can have a kitten, no people’
‘Too late”
Meryn is very close to solving issues in the Vampire city, but also finds the twin witches Nigel and Neil, who she will soon adopt as her new brothers, her baby “Keelans”.
“They’re mine; I adopted them’ Meryn declared cheerfully”

In addition to all the crazy happening around Meryn, I enjoyed in My Guardian the change of the city where the action is held and I’m happy to find out that all the cities among this fantasy world will come in the next books in this series.

Kendrick is a very strong character and comes at the time when things really start to come together a bit more. Anne is the future queen of Storm Keep so we are very happy about that. Oh, and a little spoiler alert!!! Meryn has a little bit of power in her so that is such good news to hear. Can’t wait to see how her powers develop throughout the series! My Brother’s Keeper has been one of the books that introduced a character i enjoy a lot.

“I enjoy my crazy, thank you very much. I noticed a long time ago that those who value normalcy to the point of making someone else feel like shit for being different were assholes. I stopped caring about what people thought of me after that.”

In My Brother’s Keeper, we meet Anne at the famous grocery store the guys go to when the women make them buy stuff for them. She is human. She will appear in Keelan’s dreams confusing him, thinking she is her mate, but actually, he sees her as a premonition to keep her safe for his brother, Kendrick.
When I think of the male characters in this series, Kendrick strikes me one of the powerful ones, and will be present as much as Aiden and Meryn as the series continues.

My Savior is the story of Amelia and Darian.

We soon find out that Darian is close to losing his light, and by being a Fae he thinks he is almost lost. By discovering why, he is this way, we get to meet Queen Aleksandra and her family, and the story become more detailed.

I like how much everyone just gravitates around Meryn. More characters come around and soon Maryn has more family then she thought of, Amelia is her cousin and her six adopted brothers become Meryn’s new brothers too.

“She will either save us or be the death of us all.”
The craziness just keeps on going in Lycaonia where feral keep going with their attack.
“Why is it that the Alpha females are crazy?”
Meryn shrugged. “She made sense to me.”
Colton turned to Meryn. “You also set Aiden’s car on fire when he ignored you.”
Amelia looked at Meryn. “Sounds reasonable.”
Meryn grinned. “I know, right?”

There are some things that bothered me, like Amalia staying a virgin for her prince. I mean, I get the whole fantasy world and shifters, vampires, witches and Faye, but as you read more into the story, you kind of expect more and more out of it. I guess it’s a battle between learning more on the whole storyline of the series and how each couple have to come out and play.

All in all, some books were more fun than others, and some I liked best and some were good for the storyline to continue and watch how Meryn makes the world her playground.

Rheia adopted a daughter, Penny, when she was in the human world. When Colton meets them, he soon gets the family he always wanted and falls in love with both of his ladies!

More clues come regarding the feral’s plans and how they can be that strategic in their evil war.

“Nothing in life is guaranteed, not even tomorrow. I learned that early in life. You have to do what you can, when you can, like wellness appointments or Disney World.” She smiled at Colton. “What you can’t do is live in fear. It will leech every moment of joy out of the time that you do have, and that’s no life at all.”

I think Colton is one of my favorite characters! He is so funny, that you cannot fall for his tricks! During all their shenanigans, they do not hesitate to laugh at each other. The dynamic of this group is excellent and FUN! And don’t get me started on that mouth of his!! Colton = dirty talk!!

My Protector is the story of Gavirel Ambrosios, the vampire that soon meets his mate, Elizabeth Monroe. They are such a great pair! Beth is a niece of the Vampire Elder in Noctem Falls. She soon figures that Meryn is more then we think and that whatever is coming to them she needs to support and protect her since her role is bigger than they can think of.

In this book we find out that Meryn is expecting a baby so that means the “boring” life in the Alpha estate is becoming less and less!

“E-Liz-A-Beth, you’ll take me to Noctem Falls won’t you?” Meryn begged giving her puppy dog eyes.

“Of course I will. We can go there after DragonCon next year,” she promised.

“Oh no. She talked you into that convention thing.” Aiden glared at his mate.

“It’s perfectly safe. Think of it this way. It’s an event where thousands of people just like Meryn get together for a couple days and live it up,” Elizabeth explained. All five men paled.

“Thousands of people,” Colton whispered.

“Just like Meryn?” Keelan asked.

Elizabeth looked around. The men had that deer in the headlights looks. “Maybe not just like her.”

“Thank goodness. One Meryn in the world is enough,” Colton teased, looking relieved.

“It’s because I’m a ‘Limited Edition’. Y’all should be grateful for even knowing me,” Meryn huffed.

“We are, my love. We are.” Aiden scowled at his men over Meryn’s head.

“We wouldn’t trade you for a sane version any day,” Colton reassured her.

Meryn smiled then frowned. “What do you mean ‘sane version’?”

In My Protector, Elizabeth Monroe is one key character, since now they see the war coming. They anticipate that all the warriors will have their mates soon, meaning their old-fashioned system has to be updated. Little by little, measures of precautions are taken, but unfortunately, not enough. Meanwhile fighting an invisible enemy.

Fearing that their future daughter in laws will end up dead before being claimed and providing them with grandchildren to spoil, they convince their own mates that something must be done. After gathering all of the warriors together in a fake award ceremony the witch Elder casts a spell to pull the warrior’s mates to them, whether they want it or not.

My Commander starts with the story of Meryn and Aiden, a human and a bear shifter who are thrown in together in a world of fantasy where the Unit warriors are soon finding their own mates. Meryn is a short pixie girl who soon makes you love her so much that you just devour every little thing that comes from her mouth. She is extraordinary and a great funny character that soon everyone gravitates around her.

“You locked her in the trunk?!” “She was kicking me.” Aiden protested. “She is human and half your size!” “You don’t understand, she is a terrorist!”

The story is more complex than the two of them; soon one by one, all unit warriors find their mate and we realize that all of them have their own purpose in the grand scheme of things. The feral have a hidden agenda and they have to fight this war against them. I love how fierce Meryn is and how much support everyone around her gives her, especially when we can hint that is more about this human that meets the eye.

“What do you buy a woman to get back on her good side when you’ve made her really, really angry? Cake? Fudge?”
The wrinkles on the old man’s face scrunched together as he frowned.
“How angry did you make her boy?”
“She set my car on fire.”

Isabelle Campbell, or as she likes to be called, Izzy, is a mess. She knows this. It’s never intentional, but somehow her curiosity always seems to run away from her. When her latest gaffe lands her homeless and fired from her favorite barista job she is left little choice but to accept the kindness of some of her favorite customers, little did she know that by doing so, she would find herself starting the biggest adventure of her life!

With kindred spirit Meryn at her side, Izzy takes on the entire fae city to protect the heart of the kindest man she has ever met. If the golden fae think they can get away with hurting her mate, they are sorely mistaken. After all, her new friend likes to electrocute people.

When facing your greatest fear means facing your family, is there any escape? Can Izzy help Oron stand against all odds?
