The Selection is the first book of “The Selection” Series by Kiera Cass. For me it was a fantastic read considering the world the author creates. For example, this the story of 35 girl, selected to run for the conquest of marrying the Prince of the Royal Family.

Here you will find a new America, a country after 3 world wars where society was divided in cast, the first being the ones from the Royal Family followed by class as it goes down. Meanwhile the world suffers, The Royal family maintains a perfect image. During this selection, the girls will learn how to become royal. However, America Singer is being part of the second lower cast.

As a result of a mistake on her part, she is being chosen to compete by force. She doesn’t care about any of this because she thinks she is already enamored with her son’s neighbor, however, the boy is from a lower class. Consequently, that puts a dent in her plan.

Her struggle is with her family, because they take pride when one of their member is chosen for such an important selection. She has a chance to be queen, and bring food on her already starving and poor family. This is a very big deal considering people struggle to survive.

The Selection shows the contest and all their shenanigans until the next cut. However, America succeeds on gaining the attention of the young prince starting day 1, that is to say, from the first night!

Even if we know that being a romantic story she will eventually be with the man of her dreams, is he really the price or the boy she fantasied about growing up?

Make sure to check Kiera Cass’ Website for news about her books.
