Landon & Shay: Part One (L&S Duet #1) by Brittainy C. Cherry
Shay Gable hated my guts, and I hated hers, too.
We went out of our way to avoid one another at all times. When she came my direction, I went the other. When we locked eyes, she’d turn and walk away.
All of that changed the day I was presented with a challenge. It started out as a stupid bet: make Shay fall in love with me before I fell in love with her first.
That was an easy bet for me to win.
I didn’t love, I hardly liked.
Yet slowly the game started to shift. Shay made me crave things I never knew I wanted.
The closer we grew, the more she challenged my darkness, and the parts I kept locked away.
The game between us became too real, our feelings intermixed, and the risks of hurting one another grew higher.
But you know what they say…
All’s fair in the game of love and war—especially the heartbreaks.

My heart broke for Landon and Shay. I literally had to go to my husband and ask him to keep me in his arms.
This is a high school enemies to lovers duet. And a slow burn one.
I love both tropes, but when you have 2 main characters as Landon and Shay, you own heart will be on the line too.
2 sworn enemies make a bet. Who will fall in love first? I liked how Shay made the bet herself.
In some parts of the book, especially in the beginning, I laughed my ass off, because both thought that the way to love is by annoying each other more.
I loved that the author inserted in key parts this:
“How’s your heart today?” “Still beating.”
It’s such a simple thing, but emotionally loaded.
Brittainy C Cherry is one author I read and loved, so I did not read the blurb before I started this one. I wanted to be deep within the book before I knew what was happening.
This book deals with depression and how people connect through their way to salvation.
“I love you in the light and in the dark. I love you like a whisper and like a shout.
I love your good days and your bad days, and I love you. All of you. Every single piece…”
“And every single scar.”
I am curious for book 2 of the Duet since the 1st book finished without a cliffhanger. But I am excited to a HEA so I will read it as soon as it’s published.
If you want to read another book from this author, I hardheartedly recommend you The Gravity of Us. Even though it’s part of the Elements Series, it can be read as a standalone. IT’s slow burn and very very good.
Anyway…. “How’s your heart today?”
