Wow, Corrupt just blew me away! I expected it to be dark and twisted, but I did not expect it to like it so much. I know it’s stupid, because I love everything Penelope Douglas writes!
As I follow all of Penelope Douglas’ media news, I saw that some people asked if they can skip Corrupt to Hideaway or skip Hideaway to read the third book Kill Switch. I strongly advise you now to skip any! Read Corrupt, the dark and twisted story of how it all started. It’s important to have the background stories straight, and the series is too damn good to overlook. Furthermore, if you feel Corrupt brings more than you can handle, be sure the rest of them will be darker and more twisted.
Erika “Rika” Fane is one of my most beloved heroines. I have the same feelings I had when I think of Tate from Bully. In short, both women are so strong characters and face everything with such force, that I cannot put them on my list.
Rika and Michael have been knowing themselves their entire life, but due to his brother’s close edge with Rika, she was pushed to be together with Trevor. As a result, Michael resented her, resented the fact that he wanted her, gravitated around her and forced himself to ignore her, even if he enjoyed her watching him. For Rika, watching Michael was something she could not ignore; she wanted his attention and wanted to be noticed by her. Michael, Kai, Damon and Will were best friends and were known to everybody in town. She knew they were the four Horsemen, with their scary masks, and scary pranks, and scary parties. She craved their freedom, and their ability to do whatever they wanted, and she watched them close her entire life.
After leaving for collage, the guys return for Devil’s Night to wreck chaos again, but that is the nigh when Michael cannot ignore Rika anymore. And his mistake leads the dreadful events that follow that night and how his friends end up in prison for 3 years, all because he let him notice her.
That cold October night is the beginning of their plan of revenge and they want Rika to feel everything they felt during this time. She has to suffer they way they did in order to pay her debt by destroying their lives. But is Rika responsible for what they thought she did? And if not, who hates them that much?
There is no cliffhanger after this book, and Hideaway is the story of Kai Mori and his life after getting out.
